THE LEGENDS AND THE OUT OF PLACE EX-GOVERNOR

Las Vegas, NV:- In the war of words between Bob Arum and Richard Schaefer, many funny things have been said and done.

Bob Arum, during the presscon at East LA announced before the home crowd of Oscar de la Hoya that certain Mexican present day boxers are coming out in full support of Manny Pacquiao. There was Tony Margarito, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr and Jr and Jorge Arce.

Of course that did not sink in too well with the Mexican crowd that came out to see their hero. One fellow atop a roof overlooking the temporary stage set at the Whittier Arch where the presscon was held even mocked Bob Arum telling him to go back to Harvard.

Today at the MGM on the final presscon for the ?Dream Match?, Richard Schaefer outdid Bob Arum.

Schaefer brought many former and present Mexican ?legends? for the media to see. He said they were there in support of de la Hoya. People like Olivares, Zarate, Cuevas, Gonzales, Carmona and the Marquez brothers and Larios were there and they came up the stage.

It was a pity to see the former ?legends?. They are now old and in very poor shape. But then again, that is understandable given the fact that they have not fought for a long time. Only the Marquez brothers and Larios appeared to be in shape.

Given that the legends are old and in such shape, would it be too far off to say that their presence ain?t gonna help and it was only pure hype?

Perhaps, they can provide moral support, much like Dundee.

But at this stage of the game, Oscar de la Hoya needs more than that.

He needs to focus and keep his sight on his goal to beat Pacquiao and perhaps make Bernard Hopkin?s predication of knocking out Pacquiao between the 8th and 9th round come true.

But that is easier said than done, the knock-out, I mean.

Oh incidentally, Team Pacquiao outdid both Arum and Schaefer. They had someone in the podium who Bob Arum emphatically told us at the media room later as someone who ?should not have been there?.

In fact when Arum was introducing the Pacquiao people, he had to stop and lean over to Pacquiao and ask for the name of the person who was not supposed to be there.

He said, ?a guest from the Philippines who is a well known governor, Gov. Takison or whatever.

The guy he was referring to?

It was former Governor Chavit Singson who came up the podium although he was not supposed to be there.

He simply took the spot reserved for Pacquiao?s brother, Rogelio who is the MP Promotions President and deserved to be up the podium.
