Las Vegas, NV:- While enjoying the mind-boggling Halloween scenery at the famed Mandalay Bay Casino Resort and Spa, we got a call about half past 10 pm from a Wildcard Gym emissary saying that Freddie Roach was kind of disturbed by what was written on ?DogHouse Boxing? by Johnny Benz. The article was regarding Roach?s alleged quote concerning the hiring of Angelo Dundee by the Team de la Hoya.

Roach was not disturbed by what Benz wrote per se. He was more concerned that people will mis-understand its intent.

From what we positively gathered, the caller was authorized by Roach himself and asked us to write an article on this website to clarify the alleged statement and show what he really meant. He did not wish people to take it out of context.

The alleged article by Benz was re-published on news portion on the PhilBoxing forum. It was dated October 31st and the title is ?Team Pacquiao disses dela Hoya.?

To quote the article, it said ? Roach known for not holding any punches when he lays down his critisicm, in regards to Dundee joining De la Hoya?s camp, stating ?I don?t care if Oscar has MAJOR Dundee in his camp.?

The caller stated that Roach?s quote about Dundee was not meant as a sign of disrespect. Roach, he said, wanted people to know that he has a lot of respect for Dundee and he admires him for what he has done in the past with several named boxers. He admires him as a man and a professional boxing trainer even to this day.

It was more intended to drive his point that Oscar ?can not pull the trigger anymore?. And, the presence of Dundee at his training camp as a consultant will really not matter much when de la Hoya faces Pacquiao on December 6th. This is not because of any short comings from the coaches, Dundee included, but because of de la Hoya himself.

Roach?s statement mirrors what Alex Ariza, Pacquiao?s conditioning coach told us last Wednesday at the gym. He said ?Oscar is Oscar and will do what he wants come fight night. You can?t teach an old dog, new tricks.?
