Los Angeles, CA.- It was a bright and hot sunny day in Los Angeles today (Wednesday, Sept 17th) as Dong Secuya of Cebu, Philippines, the PhilBoxing head honcho and myself visited the Wildcard Gym to check on the first day of Manny Pacquiao?s training leading to the much awaited fight with Oscar de la Hoya on December 6th at the MGM Grand Garden Area in Las Vegas.

The very first thing that caught our eyes as we went inside the Wildcard Gym was the brand new spic and span blue floor carpet that covered the whole gym floor and the new canvas on the main ring.

Basing on the new gym improvements, indeed Freddie Roach has prepared for the training of Pacquiao. ?We did it for you Manny? is what Roach stated within our clear hearing distance.

We also noticed brand new custom-made ?Winnings? training gloves for Pacquiao. He had two pairs, a red and a white. Both pairs are really nice looking gloves.

Another thing that was evident was the absence of the usual flock of fans that crowd the gym every time Pacquiao is in training. Kudos to the multitude of people that used to hang out at the Wildcard Gym! Obviously, they listened to the plea of Pacquiao for more privacy as he trains. We hope it will stay the same for the next 10 weeks.

Today?s training was slow and easy. Pacquiao jogged a few miles in the morning and started his gym work in the afternoon. Nothing strenuous, just light routines of punch mitts with Roach, shadow boxing, and speed bags. He also had a conditioning session with Alex Ariza at the helm.

From our observations, Pacquiao appears to be just about a little over 150 pounds. Not bad for a guy who will be fighting at a contract weight of 147 lbs.
