IIEE Singapore notches 7th level championships in Chess Olympiad, IIEE Metro East is shootfest Champ

In the penultimate 9th round of the IIEE National Chess Olympiad, the IIEE Singapore had won another level championship to lead the remaining 16-teams going to the last round to be held on October 3, 2025 via Lichess.

Mark Gerald Reyes led all scorer with 16 points and other Singapore players with more than 10 point each includes his brothers FM Narquingden, Chester Neil and Narquingel along with FM Alekhine Nouri, CM Jayson Visca, Adrian Esteva and Andres Bautista. With 4 minutes remaining, Singapore is tied with FCPL-Qatar at 114 each and Mapua at 111 but the team able to score 14 points more and left both Mapua and FCPL-Qatar with 120 points apiece and remain both with 6 level championship.

These top 3 teams are already assured in the 10-team play-off battle Royale together with IIEE Saudi, Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineer (PSME) and International Chess Friends Federation (ICFF) who all has 3 level championships and with IIEE Metro Manila and IIEE Iloilo who have 2 level championships. IIEE Mindanao has also 2 level championship but may drop out due to tie break in total points if these teams with single level championship GMG Laguna, Faeldonia, Metro Central, Northern Luzon or Bicol notch it’s 2nd level championship on the 10th round. Eastern Central Visayas and Bayanihan Chess Club could get the last slot if they could win the last round with total score of 59 points provided that those teams with single championship losses in their respective group level.

While in the IIEE Shootfest that was held in Camp Karingal, Quezon City last September 14, 2025, the IIEE Metro East team 2 composed of former IIEE National president Rodrigo Pecolera, Engr. Sumague, Engr. Ferrer, Engr. Dunghit and Engr. Carillo bested team 1 of IIEE Metro East led by Engr. Sonny Banaag (1st runner up) and IIEE Metro South led by former chapter president Charles Singson (2nd runner up). In other categories, the production awards Champion and standard awards is Engr. Benson Allam, Production optic champion is Aldrin Ferrer and Handgun classic champion is Francis Sumague. Former IIEE National President Armando Diaz also participated and won 2nd runner up in the Handgun awards with Former National Presidents Arthur Lopez and Leo Cabasag of IIEE Golden Jubilee grace the event as guest.-Marlon Bernardino -
