The Pacquiao Quarters for the Barrios Fight – A Brilliant Choice!

For years, every time Manny Pacquiao trained for his fights at the famed Wild Card Gym of Hall of Fame trainer, Freddie Roach, his choice of quarters could always be described as "organized chaos." Be it at the apartment along Vine Street in Hollywood, a condominium along Beverly Blvd near the famous Farmers Market, or at his house in Hancock Park.
More so at his house!
Pacquiao loves company, but those around him stretched that so far that it almost bordered on abuse of privilege. People came and went at the Hancock Park house, making it seem like a busy restaurant on Sunset Boulevard.
Speaking of restaurants, the people who visited the house to say hello to Pacquiao, get an autograph, or just simply to be able to say that they are "friends" of Pacquiao, often stayed to eat dinner as well, particularly the acquaintances and those well-connected to the so-called "security." However, if you were not one of those, even if you had a small contribution to the training, chances are you would be grilled extensively about your business, asked to wait for hours, or at worst, not allowed into the house.
All that chaos is now gone, at least from what we saw.
Whoever made the decision to pick the quarters for the coming Barrios fight made a brilliant choice. It was almost a genius move. Well, a tad below that!
The new quarters are located along the famous Wilshire Boulevard corridor, just a few meters from the eastern boundary between LA and the world-famous City of Beverly Hills. That is as much as we will disclose as we don’t have permission to tell everyone where it is.
The place is a top-class property, and the unit in the building occupied by Team Pacquiao is on the very top floor with an awesome view of the surrounding high-end residential areas and high-rent office buildings. It has several rooms, enough to house the whole team.
To this writer, the location of the building brought back great memories. The first two dental offices that he had from 1971 to 1989 were right across the place. He had many wonderful patients from the neighborhood, particularly from the nearby Cedar Sinai Hospital.
The new Team Pacquiao quarters are highly secured. Nobody can enter the lobby without being allowed by a staff member who mans the lobby. And visitors must be met at the lobby by a member of the Team. This limits access to the quarters. With that, the usual hangers-on and people with no definite business with the Team, except to hang out, would not be able to access the quarters. That means a lot of savings for the Team in terms of grocery bills. There are fewer people to feed and fewer people to create all the chaos and accompanying distractions.
The quiet place is what Pacquiao exactly needs so he can take advantage of the silence and effectively rest after his grueling training routines.
This writer, accompanied by boxing photographer Jay Otamias, was invited to the quarters. Pacquiao needs a new mouthguard for his fight with Barrios. We graciously accepted the invite, and this writer took Pacquiao’s dental impression from which a new dental model will be made to be used to design and fabricate the new mouthguard.
Since Jimuel Pacquiao will also be on the fight card, a new mouthguard will also be designed and fabricated for him. It will be exactly what his Dad will have, except for some tweaking of the colors to distinguish them from each other.
Father and son will thus be well protected when they fight on July 19th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
