LAS VEGAS -- A mere few weeks after breaking off from Gary Shaw who failed to get him a fight since last December 1, 2007, Nonito Donaire took a huge step toward a far and better future.
Today, at the Mandalay Resort Casino, Bob Arum, the CEO of Top Rank Promotions called a conference to announce that he signed Nonito Donaire Jr., for a minimum of 3 fights with options for more.
With other named fighters already lurking within the Top Rank organization, getting a fight with them with Donaire will be easier.
Arum mentioned possible fights with Fernando Montiel or Jorge Arce with the fight possibly happening in Macau in October or November.
Arum emphasized that Donaire Jr., will never fight on the same card with Manny Pacquiao. He indicated that putting together the two Filipino champions on the same card does not make a good business sense as each fighter is capable of headlining a card without having the other involved in the same card.
He also announced that Glenn Donaire, the elder of the two fighting Donaire brothers will fight for a title on July 12, 2008 at Mexico. The fight will be on Azteca TV and it will be free.
Donaire Jr., indicated that he is ready anytime to fight as a 112 or 115 lbs. ?I will fight anyone they put before me?, he said.
Donaire gave credit to Pacquiao for opening the door for other Filipino fighters and predicted that Pacquiao-Diaz fight will be a good one given the fact that both fighters are fighting for their countries.
Present at the conference were Cameron Dunkin, Donaire?s manager, Nonito Donaire Sr, the father and trainer of the Donaire brothers and Nonito Jr?s girl friend , the pretty Rachel Marcial.
