GM Daniel Quizon favorite in the Kamatyas Rapid Open chess tournament in Isabela

Manila---The country's newest grandmaster Daniel Quizon is the favorite to push the Kamatyas Rapid Open Chess Championship with the theme Blast of Mind Power to be held on November 2, 2024 at the Isabela Convention Center in Cauayan City, Isabela.

Besides Quizon, International Masters Joel Banawa, Ronald Dableo and Ricardo de Guzman, FIDE Masters David Elorta and Christopher Castellano are also participating.

Also featured are Kevin Arquero, Vince Angelo Medina, Mcdominique Lagula, Samson Chhiu Chhin Lim, Alexis Emil Maribao, Anwar Cabugatan, Marc Francis Balanay, Malaysia's Wei Hao Tan, Phil Martin Casiguran, Robert Mania, Sol Tiamzon, Jason Rojo and IIEE Raynold Roces.

The 9-round Swiss System tournament, organized by International Master Roderick Nava and National Master David Almirol Jr. of Kamatyas Chess Club, has the highest purse of P30,000 plus trophy.

"Free registration and lunch to all participating 200 players," said IM Nava.

The second placer to fourth placer will have P10,000, P7,000 and P5,000. The fifth to 10th placers will receive P2,000 each while the 11th to 15th placers will earn P1,000 each.

Consolation awards await the top scorers in the following categories: Kiddies, Juniors, Lady, Seniors, Top Isabela and Top Cauayan.-Marlon Bernardino-
