It’s about that time of the year when the customary Christmas greetings must be sent to one’s connections. And since the admin, friends, readers, contributors and yes, even the bashers and haters of philboxing.com are some of my connections, I am sending herewith, a warm and a blessed Christmas wish to everyone. May your New Year be better than the past ones.
I should have written this article days ago but at age 82, its not always easy to remember that there are important things to be done daily. But that’s how it goes for many seniors like me!
Somedays however, are better than others. Not to brag, I just went to another room moments ago and I actually remembered why I went there! It was the bathroom, but still….
Come next year, my connections to philboxing.com will span an awesome two decades plus.
I must say that every bit of that involvement has been nothing but fun! But then again, that is as much as I can remember.
There is no better person to deal with in this business of writing about the sports called boxing, than Dong Secuya, the creator and the spark plug behind philboxing.com, one of the world’s largest “boxing news portals” If one is looking for boxing news, go no further. Secuya’s brainchild has everything you want to read.
It was amazing how the site got even bigger after Manny Pacquiao retired from boxing. As many know, the site was started to help Pacquiao get exposure not only to his local fans but worldwide as well. Many would not admit, but philboxing.com helped push Pacquiao get to where he was in the sports.
Modesty aside, I had a small contribution in that too, particularly with the articles that dealt with his mouthguards. And, I had a fair share of bashers that laugh at my writing style and the many errors in grammar and syntax. But, as one fellow sportswriter said in my defense, “writing for philboxing.com is not a grammar contest”. It’s about expressing your passion in boxing and describing what you have witnessed the best way you can, grammar and syntax be damn!”
Basing on what I have seen since Pacquiao retired, philboxing.com will be in this business for many years to go. After all, it’s still the “go to” site for true boxing enthusiasts. Well, I guess that is also true for everybody else that enjoys boxing, including this soon to be 83 year-old proud contributor.
Have a great Holiday Season everyone. Hopefully, in a few hours from now, we will have the first super bantamweight unified title holder. Let’s go Marlon Tapales!
