According to WBO superflyweight champion Fernando Montiel, a second fight with Filipino Z "The Dream" Gorres would interest him, and even hinted at meeting the Pinoy fighter on the July 26 Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito card in Las Vegas.
Montiel, in an article posted at Boxnoticias, indicated that soon after his recent title defense against Luis Maldonado, his phone hasn't stopped ringing with offers for his next fight.
The Mexican world champion is still apparently seething from the split decision verdict he took when he faced Gorres on February 24 last year in Cebu.
Montiel has indicated that since that fight, he has changed his style to fit the cravings of the fans, which resulted in all his knockout victories since the Gorres fight.
He stopped Cecilio Santos (TKO10), Luis Melendez (TKO12), Martin Castillo (KO4) and Luis Maldonado (TKO3), and now wants to add Gorres to that knockout list.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has also reportedly expressed interest at pitting Montiel against Gorres.
Gorres, meanwhile, has also remained undefeated in three fights since trading blows with Montiel.
However, Gorres' chief benefactor, Cebu sportsman Antonio L. Aldeguer has indicated that there are no definite plans of a Montiel-Gorres showdown.
"No one talked to us about it. No negotiation at all," said Aldeguer when sought for comment on the issue, adding that his other ward, unbeaten superfly AJ 'Bazooka' Banal, is fighting on the same day in Cebu for the WBA crown against Panama's Rafael Concepcion.
