SPORTSCLOPEDIA 44: GERVONTA "TANK" DAVIS, ONE OF BOXING'S BIGGEST DRAWS

Gervonta "Tank" Davis vs. Ryan "KingRy" Garcia will be fought on April 22 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas which will be one of the year's biggest boxing events. The fight will take place over 12 rounds at a catchweight of 136 lbs.

Tank Davis is not only one of the best fighters in boxing today, he’s also one of its biggest draws. Davis, a southpaw, has impressed millions of fans all over the world with his premium boxing style and dreaded punching power.

Gervonta Davis, age 28, of Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A. has won world championships in three weight divisions, including the WBA (Regular) lightweight title since 2019; the IBF super featherweight title in 2017; the WBA (Super) super featherweight title twice from 2018 to 2021; and the WBA (Regular) super lightweight title in 2021.

Davis won all his 28 fights with 26 of these victories by knockout. As compared to Garcia's record of 23 wins, 0 losses and 0 draws, with 19 of these wins by knock out. Only two fighters survived the distance from his extraordinary prowess.

In his 9th professional fight Tank Davis won over Germán Meraz of Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico by unanimous decision on October 8, 2014 at Beau Rivage, Biloxi, Mississippi, U.S.A.

His 26th fight also resulted in a decision, with him winning over Isaac Cruz of Mexico City. Mexico by UD 12 on December 5, 2021 at Staples Center, Los Angeles, California, to defend the WBA (Regular) lightweight title.

Davis defeated José Pedraza of Caguas, Puerto Rico by TKO7 at 2:36 on January 14, 2017 at Barclays Center, New York City, U.S. to win the IBF super featherweight title.

He won over Jesús Cuellar of José C. Paz, Buenos Aires, Argentina by TKO 3 at 2:45 on April 21, 2018 at the Barclays Center, New York City, New York, U.S.A. and captured the vacant WBA (Super) super featherweight title.

He stopped Yuriorkis Gamboa of Guantanamo, Cuba by TKO 12 at 1:17 on December 28, 2019 at the State Farm Arena, Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. and grabbed the vacant WBA (Regular) lightweight title.

He annihilated Léo Santa Cruz of Huetamo, Michoacan, Mexico by KO 6 at 2:40 on October 31, 2020 at the Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas, U.S..A., in the process he retained the WBA (Regular) lightweight title and seized the WBA (Super) super featherweight title.

He then stopped Mario Barrios of San Antonio, Texas by TKO 11 at 2:13 on June 26, 2021 at State Farm Arena, Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. and won the WBA (Regular) super lightweight title.
