Philippine bantamweight champion Michael Domingo of the ALA Boxing Gym will get his biggest fight to date when he battles former WBO bantamweight king Jhonny Gonzalez on May 9 at the Morongo Casino in Cabazon, California.

According to Boxnoticias, Gonzalez was informed of the latest development on Wednesday by his promoter Reginaldo Kuchle, and it was revealed that the fight would be for 12 rounds in the superbantamweight category.

?The fight will be promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and if Jhonny comes out victorious, in his next fight he will be going for the superbantam crown probably against Daniel Ponce de Leon," Kuchle said.

"Nothing is confirmed yet," clarifies ALA Gym president Michael Aldeguer, who manages Domingo. "Eric (Gomez) brought up the idea to me in Manila. I told him we were open to it. I have not spoken to Eric yet if it's a go," the young Aldeguer added.

On Friday, April 4, Gonz?lez (37-6, 31 nocauts) demolished Edel ?Cuate? Ruiz also at the Morongo Casino in a superbantam bout.

Gonzalez is no stranger to Filipino fight fans, as he was the same fighter who put Gerry Penalosa in dire straits before succumbing to the Filipino fighter's lone body shot in the seventh round at their World Cup duel last year.

"It's a big opportunity and I have lots of confidence with Domingo. The only hitch is the fight is too close, it's only a month from now. Nothing has been finalized yet," said sportsman Antonio L. Aldeguer, echoing his son Michael's comment.

Domingo, best known to Mexican fans for his one-sided defeat of the previously unbeaten Miguel Roman at last year's World Cup, is on a winning spree.

At last Sunday's "Invasion" card, he looked awesome in his two-round demolition of Thepnimit Sor Chitpattana.
