Gervonta 'Tank' Davis won a close unanimous decision to retain his WBC lightweight belt against the very determined Isaac Cruz at the Staples Center in Los Angeles Sunday night (Monday in Manila). Scores: Carla Caiz 115-113, Max DeLuca 115-113 and Zachary Young 116-112 in favor the Baltimore native Davis.

Davis who stopped all but one of his previously 25 opponents, could not put away the come-forward Mexican who kept on throwing dangerous punches keeping Davis to at bay. Davis though appeared to hurt his powerful left hand in round six that Cruz tried to take advantage of.

Davis is now 26-0 with 24KOs while Cruz, who made a good account of himself, dropped to 22-2-1 with 15KOs.
