Ramirez lands a hard left at Postol.

Jose Ramirez of California's Central Valley retained his WBC/WBO Jr Welter titles in a close fight against Victor Postol of Ukraine winning by majority decision at the MGM Grand Bubble Saturday night (Sunday Manila). Judges Steve Weisfeld had it 116-112 and Tim Cheatham 115-113 in favor of Ramirez while Dave Moretti had it 114-114 draw.

Postol fought in the middle, a strategy devised by his trainers Freddie Roach and Marvin Somodio who handled Ramirez's professional career until 2017 when the Avenal fighter won his first world title. Ramirez, however, who is now handled by Robert Garcia, tried to make his way inside to make the fight a bit complicated to score but eventually got the better from the judges' scorecards.

According to Compubox, Ramirez had thrown 556 punches and landed 156 for a 28% connect rate while Postol threw 668 and landed 147 for a 22% connect rate. However it was Ramirez who land the more telling punches of the night.

Ramirez who remains undefeated at 26 wins with 17 stoppages, now looks to fight Josh Taylor who holds the IBF and WBA portions for the belts for undisputed title in the junior welterweight division.

Postol, at age 36, who suffered the third loss of his career and dropped to 31-3-0, 12 KOs, may have to think twice if he is going to continue fighting.
