Former Interim world champion's Jhack Tepora's dreams were shattered Saturday night when he was stunned by fellow former Interim world champion Oscar Escandon of Columbia with a vicious body shot in the opening round of their 10-round scheduled featherweight contest on one of the undercards of the Jermell Charlo vs Tony Harrison world title fight at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.
Tepora (23-1-0, 17KOs) crumpled to the canvas in pain when he was hit by a perfect shot to to his liver courtesy a Escandon left hook as Tepora failed to beat the count.
Tepora, from Cebu, suffered his first defeat in what was expected to be a build-up fight against the ageing 35-year-old Escandon who had lost his last three fights.
Tepora, 24, was likely to figure in a world title fight had he overcame Escandon but instead it was Escandon (25-5-0, 18KOs) who put some life into his dwindling career.
