Jamel 'Semper Fi' Herring (21-2-0, 10KOs) of Cincinnati, Ohio successfuly defended his WBO world super featherweight crown via unanimous decision over Lamont Roach Jr. (19-1-1, 7KOs) of Maryland at the Chukchansi Park in Fresno, California Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) in a Top Rank promoted card.
Filipino judge Rey Danseco and Gary Ritter had it 117-111 while Max DeLuca 115-113 all in favor of Herring.
Herring started strong taking the early rounds but Roach came alive in the middle rounds to stay in the fight coming into the championship rounds. Herring appeared to control the fight from the 10th round but a solid right by Roach to the back of the ear of Herring in the 11th round buckled the legs of Herring and appeared ready to go down as Roach came in for the kill but the Marine veteran held on until the final bell.
