SALUD GIVES TEAM DARCHINYAN A PIECE OF ADVICE

Topnotch Cebuano promoter Rex "Wakee" Salud has some words of wisdom for his American counterpart Gary Shaw and the entire
Team Darchinyan.
Instead of blaming Philippine boxing for the controversial verdict of the Z Gorres-Vic Darchinyan fight, Salud said that they should give thanks to the Filipinos for coming up with a fair judgement.
Salud made this statement as he felt that Shaw's remarks that there's no way he will bring Darchinyan again in the Philippines might have projected a negative image on the international front regarding the way we handle boxing promotions here.
"They (Team Darchinyan) can't put the blame on Philippine boxing. They should be even thankful to us for handing down a very fair judgement of the fight," said Salud.
"How can they call it a biased officiating when in fact the Cebuano judge had Darchinyan won in his scorecard? It was a just
decision on our part. Even in our past promotions here in Cebu, we've always been fair in our decision," added Salud.
Salud was referring to Jonathan Davis, a banker from Cebu, who penned the bout 114-112 for Darchinyan. Montol Suriyachand of
Thailand had it 113-112 for Gorres, while Cec Perkins of Australia saw the fight even, 113-113, thus the split draw.
Salud said if there's one at fault for what had happened, it's no less than referee Lance Revill of New Zealand.
"The one to blame for the entire fiasco is the referee (Revill). It was very clear he was no longer in his element after he made a bad call in the first round. His incompetence as third man on the ring spoiled what could have been a great fight," said Salud.
Gorres and Darchinyan fought to a highly questionable split draw in a IBF super flyweight eliminator headlining last Saturday's "Now or Never" card at the Pacific Grand Ballroom of Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
Revill scored a knockdown after Gorres slipped late in the first round.
Angered by what they saw a bum call, the disgruntled Cebuano fans pelted the ring with empty mineral water bottles, coins and other debris.
Revill, who officiated a title fight for the first time outside New Zealand, was obviously intimidated by the hostile environment, leading him to commit several serious lapses the rest of the 12-round showdown.
"In the last four rounds, Gorres went down the canvass at least four times. Based on what I saw, two of which were a legitimate knockdown but the referee did not brother to count. Maybe he's afraid of what might be the reaction of the Cebuano crowd," said Salud.
"It's a very close fight that could have gone either way. Team Darchinyan wasn't happy with the decision, but they couldn't
blame Philippine boxing because we're fair in our judgement ever since," said Salud.
"If they wan't to castigate someone on what they perceived a dubious decision, they should vent their ire on the referee and the other two judges (Suriyachand and Perkins), not us," he concluded.
