Steph Curry's spicy performance help GSW devour Minnesota Timberwolves in second preseason home game

It didn’t start well (again) for the Golden State Warriors star player.
He missed his first attempt with a fadeaway jumper and got crossed by Jeff Teague who left him behind for an easy layup.
But Steph Curry is not a one-dimensional player.
He is an elite shooter and possibly the greatest to play the game.
He’s an elite point guard able to get others involved fast and early.
He knows he can’t win a game by himself.
It takes a team to beat a team, and the motto “Strength in Numbers” is what the Warriors live by.
Tonight, it was in full display as the new Golden State Warriors showed signs of a team starting to gel.
With an offense that requires selflessness, constant motion, high energy and court awareness, the Warriors started to show the hard work they’ve been putting together in the off-season after the departures of their long time All-star veterans.
And Golden State without a true center against a team with an elite center nicknamed “Special-K”, the new teammates stepped up big-time to play as a team and pull out an impressive first preseason win.
They didn’t play as a group of young players depending on their All-star leader to bail them out.
There was more hustle, more aggression, more conviction and more confidence in how each of them played their minutes on the floor.
And it was ultimately because Steph Curry was able to play the way we know he is capable of and have gotten accustomed to.
By the end of the first period, the Warriors had 35 points, Curry putting up 17 baskets himself.
Having scored almost half the first quarter points might appear like Curry dominated the offense, but the exact opposite was true.
It was the much-improved execution of the Warrior offense that enabled Curry to score against the Minnesota Timberwolves’ solid defense.
By the end of the first half, Curry had 24 points en route to a 40-point night finishing his superb performance in the 3rd quarter.
Draymond Green was able to connect with players for easy buckets in transition to lead the team with 7 assists.
Jordan Poole again proved his worth on the team with 19 points in 21 minutes off the bench.
If not for Curry’s 40-point evening, the story of the game might be more about Marquese Chriss and his excellent game against Karl Anthony Towns (aka Special K).
It would’ve been a great night for Special-K to showcase his dominance as an elite center in the NBA just as LA’s “The Brow” capitalized on mismatches and alley-oops against the Warriors.
Quite a few NBA insiders probably expected Towns to have as good a night if not better.
But that would not be the case if Marquese Chriss had anything to say about it and he did.
He played an exceptional game against Towns to get him off his rhythm and out of the offense.
Being a power forward playing as center, Chriss made a very strong case for his spot on the Warriors roster.
He positioned himself well in the paint to snatch rebounds and avoid second chance points from the Timberwolves.
He also ran the floor well in transition to make alley-oop dunks in spectacular fashion from Green and Russell to get the Dub Nation on their feet erupting in cheers for their home team.
Towns finished with 9 points in 22 minutes of action on the floor proving the Warriors did their homework after the Lakers’ Anthony Davis clinic from the first preseason game.
The stars took a seat in the 4th quarter, but didn’t take the foot off the pedal, denying Minnesota a chance to catch up and steal a win in San Francisco.
The bench continued to play well, aggressively defending and scoring as the Timberwolves subsequently fell to the Warriors 143-123.
The Warriors look to even the score with the Los Angeles Lakers as they travel down to the Staples Center on October 14th.
If Marquese Chriss can repeat his stellar performance against the Lakers this Monday night, the Warriors have a great shot.
