The Pacman’s New Toys

Early this week I received a call from Boboy Fernandez, Pacquiao’s side kick informing me that Pacquiao needs to see me regarding a certain item he just purchased at Sammy’s Camera along Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles, about six blocks from the Palazzo Apartment where he is based.

“Kailanggan ka ni Manny, kasi may ipakikita siya sa yo”, Fernandez.said. (Manny needs you as he wants to show you something”).

Since I was tied up with work, I did not have time to go until this afternoon. I called Pacquiao PR man, Winchel Campos and informed him that I will meet them at the Wildcard Gym.

I went to Wildcard a little early to see the rest of the guys who were there. Gerry Penalosa just finished his work out. In the ring shadow boxing were Diosdado Gabi who will be fighting in the under card of the Pacquiao-Marquez bout, and Rodel Mayol. Up on the ring too was Bernabe Concepcion who just flew in last night with his manager, Aljoe Jaro. He was trying to shake off his jet lag.

At about 1:15. Manny Pacquiao walked in with his entourage. Manny had a camera hanging on his neck and he immediately started taking pictures as he walked in the gym.

When I approached him, he handed me the camera and said, “Here is a camera for you to use at the ringside on March 15th”. And he handed me the camera.

What he said and what he did completely blew me away. He just handed me the most expensive Canon Camera money can buy, an EOS Mark III with a 24-70mm, 2.8 lens and a 580EXIII speedlite flash gun.

Nothing could be better to use from the ringside apron to catch the action atop the ring!

I can only consider myself lucky for being given the assignment by Manny. Hopefully, I can live up to his expectations.

From what I gathered from Team members, Manny also purchased his own lap top to use when he is at the Palazzo relaxing. Now, according to them , nights are spent on the computers. Even Boboy has his own and he chats with people until its time to go to bed which is about 9:30PM.

Between the new camera and the computer, Manny is kept so busy after the training. This is indeed good as now he does not have to go out when he is bored. The new toys keeps him busy until bedtime.
