Shiro drops Taconing in 4th.
WBC light flyweight world champion Ken Shiro of Japan successfully defended his belt for the 6th time when he stopped Filipino challenger Jonathan Taconing in the 4th round at the Edion Arena in Osaka, Japan Friday night.
The shorter Taconing brought the fight to Shiro on the inside but the Japanese with his reach advantage, tagged Taconing with uppercuts and crosses coming in. Though the brave Taconing, who was cut in his forehead through a headbutt in the 3rd round, had some success connecting to the head of Shiro, the Japanese was just too smart using his superior boxing skill to accurately time Taconing coming in.
In the 4th round, Shiro connected with a short right to the jaw of Taconing who was dropped to the canvas to end the fight.
Taconing failed in his attempt to capture a world title for the third time while Shiro has now extended his undefeated run to 16 with 9 knockouts.
