Dave Pe?alosa (14-0,10KO?s) will be going for his first major belt this Saturday when he goes up against Mexican Marcos Cardenas (19-6-1,15KO?s) for the vacant WBO Oriental featherweight title.

Pe?alosa had two televised fights last year against foreign opponents - Indonesian Ricky Manufoe and Tanzanian Twalib Tuwa. Both didn?t get past the second round. But Cardenas could be a different story.

The 28 year old Mexican visited the Philippines in 2011 and went the distance against Genesis Servania before losing by unanimous decision at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-lapu City, Cebu. Cardenas also had back to back stoppage wins in Mexico last year against Jose Isidro Lares and Gael Ibarra.

Pe?alosa will be fighting once again with the pressure of not just winning but coming up with an impressive performance. It?s not just because of his family name, but also for being promoted by his uncle, former two division champion Gerry Pe?alosa. His father, Dodie Boy, was the first Filipino to win two world titles in two different weight divisions.

Dave turned 28 last February 11. He had his first pro fight in 2011 but was inactive in 2017. Their fight is set at the SM North Edsa Skydome in Quezon City and will be televised in the Philippines on ESPN 5.

Also slated to fight is another Pe?alosa clan member, Carlo Caesar Pe?alosa (13-1,6KO?s) who will face Thai Watana Phenbaan (18-5,11KO?s) .Another prospect to watch, Carl Jammes Martin (11-0,10KO?s) will be pitted against Petchorchae Kokietgym (17-2,8KO?s), Former two-division champion John Riel Casimero (25-4, 16KO?s) will be shaking off his ring rust when he battles Japanese Kenya Yamashita (13-4,10KO?s).
