21-year-old Mexican sensation Jaime Mungia continues to impress with a 3rd round stoppage of Canada's Brandon Cook to retain his WBO world super welterweight title on the main undercard of the Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin II at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Saturday night (Sunday morning in Manila).

The undefeated 6-footer Mexican puncher, who logged his 26 stoppage in 31 fights, came out firing against the shorter and overmatched Cook (20-2-0, 13KOs) and put the Canadian in dire straits before the end of the first round with a barrage of left and rights. Cook, who appeared to have no chance fighting from the outside, forced himself to mix it up inside but Mungia caught him with a powerful left-right combo in the third sending Cook to the canvas for the first time. After the count, Mungia gave no respite to Cook by throwing non-stop punches as Referee Tony Weeks came to save Cook from further punishment. Time of stoppage was at 1:03 of the 3rd round.

Mungia wrested the WBO world middleweight crown last May 12 from Sadam Ali in New York and defended it successfully against Liam Smith last July 21 at the Hark Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and has now successfully defended the belt for the second time.
