Christian Araneta.
MANDAUE CITY, CEBU - Undefeated prospect Christian Araneta (15W-0L,13KOs) is set for his second fight since he recovered from surgery on his injured shoulder when he is pitted against Jerry Tomogdan (25W-9L-4D,13KOs) on August 18 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex. They will battle for the vacant WBC Asia Silver light flyweight title.
Araneta, who fights out of the Omega Gym of Cebu, tore his right shoulder last year. This made him inactive for one year and cost him his world ranking. He is a former WBO Oriental light flyweight titleholder. Last April, he made a successful ring return and stopped Ian Ligutan in two rounds in Bukidnon.
Tomogdan is an experienced opponent and a former world title challenger. He lost to WBC minimumweight world champion Chayaphon Moonsri of Thailand three years ago by ninth round KO in Bangkok.
Last year, Tomogdan beat Japanese Riku Kano by sixth round knockout for the WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight title in Sanda,Japan. Tomogdan also fought and lost to Mexican Pedro Guevarra, a former WBC light flyweight world champ, by unanimous decision in Mazatlan two years ago.
Jaber Zayani of France and Filipino Eduardo Mancito will dispute the WBO Oriental junior lightweight title in a ten round bout. Zayani is unbeaten in fourteen bouts with eight KOs. Aside from his native France, he has seen action in Canada, Thailand, Mexico, and the U.S.
Mancito (16-8-2,9KOs) is also a well travelled boxer and lost to quality opponents like Rey Vargas of Mexico, who would go on and win the WBC world super bantamweight title and Tomas Rojas, also from Mexico, a former WBC world super flyweight champion.
There will be four supporting bouts: Joebert Alvarez vs Gerpaul Valero 10 rounds, Ponciano Rimandiman vs Adrian Lerasan 8 rounds, Marjun Piencenaves vs Jeffrey Stella 6 rounds, and Carlo Bacaro vs Matthew Fondales 4 rounds. This fight card is presented by Omega Pro Sports and Championship Boxing Development Philippines.
