BACOLOD CITY ? Cauayan-native Jay-r Raquinel dethroned Japanese Keisuke Nakayama (10-3-2 with 4 KOs) with a 9th round stoppage to capture the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) flyweight title late Tuesday at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

The 21-year-old undefeated Raquinel (9-0-1 win-loss-draw, including 6KOs) overcame the odds fighting his opponent?s home turf to formally secure the OPBF belt after winning the interim title last year against Richard Rosales via majority decision.

Raquinel immediately made his presence felt at start of the opening round with couples of combination on Nakayama and extended his dominance towards the middle rounds.

But, the Japanese didn?t easily give up as he hit back at Filipino?s defense in the sixth and seventh round. However, Nakayama?s effort alongside his fans? cheers weren?t enough to wobble the Negrense fighter ? who has a huge ninth round highlighted with a solid right to send Nakayama into the canvas.

?Firstly, I would like to thank God for keeping me safe. And, to all those who gave me this opportunity to earn this honor,? he said. The young Negrense pride also sent his gratitude to all who supported and prayed for him. (Watchmen Daily Journal)
