REVECO HAD SOME WEIGHT ISSUES

Most professional fighters know that it is their personal responsibility to make weight. Not the trainer or the conditioning man. It?s all about discipline and personal sacrifices. And, focus if I may add.
Today at the official weigh-in of all the fighters involved in tomorrow?s Superfly2 fight card Juan Carlos Reveco, the challenger for Donnie Nietes IBF Flyweight belt, stepped on the digital scale and registered a 112.2. He was over the limit of the contracted weight for the IBF Flyweight title fight.
Reveco?s trainers then covered him with towels and stripped him to his birthday suit. But he is still overweight by .2 lbs. The CSAC representative instructed them to go out and try to lose the weight and come back in an hour.
Less than an hour later, Reveco and his team came back and he again got on the scale. Still, he was .2 lbs over the limit. At that point there was some arguments because the scale kept on giving two readings while Reveco was standing still on the scale. It at one time read 112.2 and a second later will read 112 and revert to 112.2
The Reveco people where insisting that he made 112 while this writer and trainer Edito Villamor replied that he did not and in fact he was 112.2. After several attempts of getting on and off the scale and still got two confusing readings, the CSAC representative possibly got frustrated, simply declared that he made weight and that?s the end of the issue.
The difference of .2 pounds may seem trivial to many who are not to privy about how boxing contracts are made and how issues of ?overweight? are handled.
Had the scale did not act up and indeed was over weight on his second attempt to made weight, there are at least a couple of things that could happen. One, the Nietes camp can insist that Reveco lose the excess weight or there is no fight. Two, the Nietes camp can sign on the excess weight but Reveco needs to pay Nietes a certain amount of money as a ?penalty? for going over the contracted weight.
The excess of .2 lbs really is not a big deal unlike something like a pound or two. It most probably will not make a heck of a difference tomorrow at the fight night. But still, Reveco had the responsibility to come in on the right weight. That is the reason why that is specified on the fight contract.
At any rate, Nietes and Reveco will have another mandatory pre-fight weight in tomorrow at 9:00 am. Both of them cannot come in 10 pounds over 112 or 122 lbs. What they do after that weigh-in and the time of the fight, is their own business. They can come in as heavy or as light as they wish. It would not matter anymore in so far as rules and contracts are concerned.
Incidentally, Donnie Nietes, the ultimate professional came in at 111.6 , indeed a tribute to the discipline that defines him as a great champion.
