Another boxer from the Sanman Gym of Gen. Santos City will try to make an impression in the United States. Undefeated featherweight John Vincent Moralde (19-0,10KO?s) will take on WBA-NABA featherweight titleholder Toka Kahn Clary (23-1, 16KO?s) on December 1 at the Strand Ballroom and Theater in Providence, Rhode Island.
The 23 year old Moralde previously held the WBF International featherweight and junior featherweight titles. Two years ago, he was involved in a ring tragedy in Australia, when his opponent Brayd Smith, who lost by unanimous decision, collapsed after their fight and passed away two days later in the hospital. That ill-fated fight was for the regional WBC ABCO featherweight title.
Moralde has fought seven times since then, winning four by KO or TKO. Together with his Sanman stablemates, he had a training stint in Florida under Cuban coach Moro Fernandez.
In a message to philboxing Moralde stated: ?I am very excited to be fighting for the first time in the USA. Toka Kahn Clary is a good boxer but I will do my best to win.?
The 25 year old Clary was born in Liberia. His only loss was courtesy of a Filipino, Jhon Gemino, who upset and knocked out Clary in the opening round last year in a Top Rank card. Clary has since racked up four straight wins, two by TKO.
?This will be a big opportunity for John Vincent Moralde, this is the fight that could put him in a world title shot if victorious,? Sanman Promotions CEO Jim Claude Manangquil added.
Clary vs Moralde will headline the card promoted by Evander Holyfield's The Real Deal Boxing.
On November 15, another unbeaten Sanman boxer, Raymart Gaballo (16-0,14KO?s) will be pitted against Mexican Ernesto Guerrero at the Hawaii Events Center in Hawaii.
Both Moralde and Gaballo will try to duplicate the success of their stablemates Romero Duno (15-1,13KO?s) and Harmonito dela Torre (19-0,12KO?s).
Duno has two wins in the U.S. against Christian Gonzalez and Juan Pablo Sanchez and is under contract with Golden Boy Promotions. Dela Torre (19-0,12KO?s) also has two victories in the States against Guillermo Sanchez and Jose Luis Araiza.
