Ancajas.
Jerwin Ancajas is in the final stages of his preparation for another battle on the road when he defends his IBF world super flyweight title against Jamie Conlan at the SSE Arena in Belfast.
Ancajas? manager and trainer Joven Jimenez informed philboxing in an internet chat that his prized fighter?s training has been going really well. Jimenez stated that Ancajas has sparred with Pete Penitente, Allan Alberca, Daniel Lim, John Mark Alimane and Jumar Caindog.
Three of the said sparring partners are much bigger than Ancajas. Alberca and Penitente, a.k.a. Peter Apolinar, are both featherweights. Penitente has a 7W-1L record and Alberca is 7W-2L. Lim is registered as a junior welterweight with 5 wins and no losses.
Alimane (5-0,3KO?s) who is a flyweight, scored a 6th round knockout win against China?s Su Yinhuan in Macao last October 27. Su is the reigning WBO Greater China super flyweight titleholder. Caindog (6-1), a junior flyweight, is the lightest of Ancajas? sparmates.
Jimenez told this writer that Team Ancajas will leave for Northern Ireland on November 10. Ancajas vs. Conlan will be on November 18.
?Jerwin is nearing the weight limit. Our training went very well.? Jimenez added, ?We are prepared to go the full twelve rounds.?
This has been a busy year for the 25 year old Ancajas (27W-1L-D,18KO?s). After beating and taking the IBF world title away from Puerto Rican McJoe Arroyo last year in Taguig City, Ancajas has defended his crown twice in 2017.
Last January in Macao, he stopped Mexican Jose Alfredo Rodriguez in seven rounds. Then in July, on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao-Jeff Horn in Brisbane, Ancajas beat Japanese Teiru Kinoshita by TKO, also in seven rounds.
Ancajas was also in Beijing last September in an international fight card attended by boxing icon Manny Pacquiao. Ancajas was cheering for Mark Anthony Barriga, who beat Thai Wattawas Bassapean by a shutout for the vacant WBO International minimumweight title. Pacquiao and Ancajas witnessed six Filipino boxers score a sweep in Beijing?s Heyuan Royal Garden Hotel.
The 31 year old Conlan is undefeated with a 19W-0L,11KO?s record. He previously won the WBO Inter-continental, British Commonwealth and WBC Silver International belts. He will have the homecourt advantage and most of his fights were held in his native Belfast.
