Sta. Cruz keeps title with a great domination of Cris Avalos

Tonight at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA., Leo Sta Cruz (34-1-1, 19KO) of Los Angeles dominated Chris Avalos (27-6-0-, 20KO) of Lancaster, CA from the first bell preventing Avalos from winning even one round.

Sta. Cruz far outclassed Avalos many times landing as many as 5 power punches in a row. Avalos however showed he had granite chin by not going down inspite of the rain of punches. He can console himself by being stopped on his feet and can claim that he lost the fight but Sta. Cruz never dropped him.

Sta. Cruz's brutal performance resulted in the fight being stopped at 1:34 of round no 8 saving Avalos from further beating.

Avalos and his corner were so frustrated by the stoppage that they protested so vehemently but the decision has been made to terminate the fight and that was that.

The scenario is now set up for the big rematch next year between Sta. Cruz and Mares. Hopefully PBC can put that together quickly as there seems to be a clamor for it, at least from amongst the crowd at the StubHub.
