Roach (L) and Lagumbay.
LOS ANGELES -- Since its inception more than four years ago, PhilBoxing has always made it a point to be present in boxing promotions involving Filipino big-named fighters. The up-coming fight that is being co-promoted by Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions involving Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera on October 6th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center is no different.
PhilBoxing has sent its respected editor to cover the grand event.
PhilBoxing editor Salven Lagumbay blew into town tonight via Philippine Airlines. On the same flight were Jinkee Pacquiao and her entourage.
Lagumbay was met at the LAX by this writer and immediately brought to the Vagabond Hotel next to the Wildcard Gym in Hollywood where he will stay overnight. Early tomorrow morning Lagumbay will take a long ride via GreyHound to Las Vegas to get ready for the week long hoopla leading to the fight on Saturday.
Before that big fight however, there will be a side activity to be covered. On Thursday, October 4th, at the Hard Rock Caf?, Lagumbay together with this writer will cover the fight card that involve among others, Aljoe Jaro Stable?s Bernabe Concepcion. Concepcion is the NABF super bantamweight champion.
In Las Vegas, Lagumbay will be billeted at the Rio Hotel and Casino courtesy of Pacland?s frequent contributor, Ninong-Quatro-Katorse.
The readers, contributors and fans of PhilBoxing will however miss the on-site reports of its veritable website founder, Dong Secuya AKA Shiva. Secuya is tied up with a very important project in Cebu, thus he can not make it to Las Vegas.
His absence in Las Vegas however may turn out to be a positive. With Secuya at home in Cebu, everyone that rely on PhilBoxing and Pacland for up to the minute news regarding the happenings in Las Vegas, including the big fight itself will be assured of being able to access the dual websites for such news. This is because Secuya will be on hand to fix any problems on the dual websites that may occur due to the excessive number of people trying to access the said sites all at the same time much like what happened during the World Cup in Sacramento, California.
