LUIS ARIAS TKO ARIF MAGOMEDOV IN 5

LAS VEGAS -- In the first TV fight on the undercard of the Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev unified world light heavyweight title rematch at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino Events Center here Saturday night, Luis Arias (18-0-0, 9KOs) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin won via 5th round TKO over Arif Magomedov (18-2-0, 11KOs) of Kizlyar, Russia. Arias knocked down Magomedov in round 5 but Arif beat the count. When the fight resumed, Arias went after Arif and after several unanswered punches, Referee Robert Byrd stopped the fight at 1:15 of the round. Arias successfully defended his USBA Middleweight title he won on June 4, 2016 over Jorge Silva.

In other results:

Junior Younan (12-0-0, 9KOs) of Brooklyn, New York stopped Zoltan Sera (29-14-0, 20KOs) of Budapest, Hungary in the first round. Time: 1:39.

In 8-round scheduled super middleweight contest, Vaughn Alexander (10-0-0, 7KOs) of Saint Louis, Missouri won by 4th round technical decision over Fabiano Pena (19-8-1, 15KOs) of Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico.
