Jhack Tepora.

CEBU ? Building up a boxing prospect is not an exact science. There will be hits and misses. The fighter will either make his management team look like a bunch of geniuses or the blueprint to success will blow up in their faces.

WBO Oriental junior featherweight titlist Jhack ?El Kapitan? Tepora (20W-0L, 15 KO?s) will have to step up this July 7 when he defends his belt against Mexican Emmanuel Dominguez (21W-5L-2D,13KO?s) at the Island City Mall in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

This will be the first time that Tepora will fight a boxer from Mexico. His two previous foreign foes were from Indonesia ? Galih Susanto and Yon Armed ? who were easily disposed of.

Filipino boxing fans know the reputation of Mexican fighters. We have seen them battle against Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire and Donnie Nietes. Tepora is aware of that as well.

In the last press conference held early this month by Omega Pro Sports International (OPSI), Tepora stated that he will train twice as hard for this fight so he can match the Mexican?s vaunted endurance.

Tepora, together with his Omega Gym stablemates, had a public workout last Monday at the Robinson?s Galleria to promote the July 7 fight card. He sparred with Jerry Castroverde, who will be in the undercard against Anthony Sabalde.

Omega Pro Sports,International (OPSI) President Pio Paulo Castillo was on hand and he spoke to this writer about their franchise boxer.

?We already know that Jhack is a skilled boxer, we know he is good. What we want to know is what level he is at. Is he already at a level where he can compete against Mexican fighters like Dominguez?? Castillo said.

Castillo is however, confident that Tepora and his other boxers will be well conditioned on fight night. He cited Dr. Roel Deja?o, who was hired as the conditioning coach when OPSI launched their ?WHO?S NEXT?? fight series last year.

?I cannot predict the outcome of this fight. But this will truly test at what level Jhack is at this stage of his career.? Castillo also stated that a loss will not be the end for Tepora. He plans to re-evaluate their boxing program depending on the outcome of this fight card.

Tepora was an amateur standout here in Cebu, winning five national titles, and was even recruited to join our national team pool but he eventually decided to turn professional.

The public workout staged by the OPSI at Robinson?s Galleria also showcased other Omega boxers like Kenny Demecillo, Tomejune Mangubat, Allan Villanueva and Mark Vicelles.

The co-main event in Tagbilaran City will be the highly anticipated rematch between two world ranked light flyweights. WBO number seven contender and Oriental champ Christian ?The Bomb? Araneta (14W-0L,12KO?s) will try to prove that his win two years ago against Jesse Espinas (16-2,11KO?s), now ranked number five by the WBO, was not a fluke.
