RUENROENG TRAINING FOR COMEBACK FIGHT IN THE PHILIPPINES

Former IBF world flyweight champ Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand is preparing for his return to the professional ring on June 23 against Filipino Dado Cabintoy.

Boxing promoter in hiatus Aljoe Jaro e-mailed this writer about his thoughts and updates on the 37 year old Ruenroeng?s upcoming fight.

?The fight is set at bantamweight. But I would have preferred that Amnat fights at 122 lbs, and eventually challenge WBO jr. featherweight champion Jessie Magdaleno.? Jaro stated.

Ruenroeng actually fought in the lightweight (60kgs) division in the 2016 Rio Olympics when professional boxers were allowed to compete for the first time. He also represented his country during the 2008 edition of the Olympic Games. In Rio, Ruenroeng was halted by France?s Sofiane Oumiha.

Jaro told this writer that Ruenroeng was overweight in Johnriel Casimero rematch because he did not train properly. ?He did not even want to take the fight,? Jaro said.

Both Casimero and Ruenroeng were above the flyweight limit in their first trip to the scales in that fight held in Beijing. Casimero, from the Philippines, took the IBF world crown in May of 2016 when he stopped the Thai with a hard body punch in the fourth round.

This was Ruenroeng?s only loss as a professional.

?Ruenroeng is making a comeback because he is interested in being a champion again.? Jaro emphasized, ?He eventually wants to return to 112 lbs and challenge either the WBO champion Zou Shiming or newly-crowned IBF champ Donnie Nietes of the Philippines.?

Amnat actually derailed Zou?s first attempt to win a world title when he beat the Chinese star by unanimous decision in Macao.

?Ruenroeng is back in his province in Thailand and has been training for a couple of months. Frankie Jaro is there helping them out. They specifically requested for him. He has two sparring partners who were with him during the Olympics.? Jaro added, ?They plan to go to the Philippines one week before the fight to continue their training in Binangonan, Rizal. Amnat wants to prove that he can be a champion again despite his age. Money is not his motivation. He already has a newly built house. His wife has a business. But he still wants to save for their children?s future.?.

Both Frankie and Aljoe Jaro were in Ruenroeng?s corner during the fight with Zou at the Cotai Arena.

Ruenroeng (17W-1L,5KO?s) and Cabintoy (15W-7L-2D,8KO?s), from the Elorde boxing stable, will clash at the Calamba Sports Center in Laguna.

Boxrec now lists Cabintoy?s address in Okinawa, Japan. His last three fights, all losses, were held in Japan, two against Japanese boxers Ryo Kosaka and Yuta Nakagawa.

The 27 year old Cabintoy, from Aurora, has also fought for the WBC International and WBO Oriental belts but lost in both occasions. His last win was in 2015, in Okinawa, a third round TKO of Thai Prayoot Yaijam.
