A historic six championship bouts involving five nations all in one top grade boxing extravaganza costing approximately P6 million at a five-star hotel.
These are the highlights of tonight's blockbuster show topbilled by ALA Boxing Gym pride Donnie "The Snakeman" Nietes, who will take on the unbeaten Thai knockout artist Pornsawan Kratingdaenggym for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) mimimumweight title at the grand ballroom of Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel in Brgy. Lahug.
Showtime promptly starts at 5 pm.
Nietes (23-1, 19KOs) has a truckload of mission to carry out in his ring clash with Pornsawam. Aside from fighting for the flag and country and his personal glory, the Bacolod City fighter also aims to give the Philippine an unprecedented four world boxing champions in one year.
Presented with the opportunity that comes only once in a blue moon, Nietes surely hopes to follow in the footsteps of Florante Condes (IBF minimumweight), Nonito Donaire, Jr. (IBF/IBO flyweight), and Gerry Pe?alosa (WBO bantamweight).
Likewise, Nietes' heart is burning with the ardent desire of fullfilling the longtime dream of his benefactor and ALA Stable top honco Antonio "Bidoy" L. Aldeguer to have a world title-holder in his fabled gym after three of his comrades failed this year.
Z Gorres lost by controversial split decision to WBO super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel last February 24 at the Cebu City Sports Center, Czar Amonsot was beaten by the undefeated Australian ring punisher Michael Katsidis by unanimous verdict last July 21 in Las Vegas, and Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista by flattened in the first round by WBO super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce de Leon last AUgust 12 in Sacramento, California.
Now that the daunting task is up for him to bear, Nietes yearns to be the key in unlocking Aldeguer's door to great happiness.
Though he enjoys homecourt advantage, Nietes still faces a tall order against Pornsawan, who is unscathed in 20 fights spiked with 15KOs. The more frightening thing is that he scored half of his victories against Filipino opposition.
In another must-see feature of the mammoth card jointly assembled by SGG Sports Promotions, ALA Boxing Gym and South Korea's Boxing Plaza (BP) Entertainment, rising ALA Stable star AJ "Bazooka" Banal (12-0-1, 10KOs) will tangle with Mexican Esau
Gaona (16-3-1, 10KOs) for the WBO Youth super flyweight title.
Before Banal climbs the ring, James Bacon of the ALA Stable will slug it out with Roldan Sayson of Cagayan de Oro City's Kaamino Stable in a special bout.
Two other ALA Boys will show their stuff in the undercards. Robert Allanic (17-3, 8KOs) will trade bombs with Korean In-Suk Song (8-2, 3KOs) for WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight diadem, while Fuentes (19-5-2, 12KOs) will put his RP flyweight belt on the line against Danilo Lerio (13-1-1, 2KOs).
Koreans Do Seuk Ooh (3-0, 3KOs) and Young Seung Kim (13-2-1, 5KOs) complete the cast of six title matches. Do Seuk Ooh will swap punches with Indonesian Hero Yauw Katili (12-6-1, 6KOs) for the WBF Asia Pacific light welterweight plum, while Young will mix it up with Thai Sapapetch Sor Sakaorat (7-3, 4KOs) for the WBO interim Intercontinental super lightweight title.
