CEBU CITY ? ?Makatilaw siya nako? (He will pay for it). This was Nietes's response to his Thai opponent Komgrich Nantapech who earlier called him ?an old man? ahead of their Saturday night fight for the vacant IBF world flyweight title at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino here on the main event of 'Pinoy Pride 40'.
Nietes, 34, who earlier said during the final press conference held at the Waterfront Hotel that he doesn't mind being called old because ?I feel young and like wine age makes me better? had a lively talk with Philboxing after the press conference. Raising his right fist, Nietes said ?I reserve this for him. This is like a caliber 22 that will pepper him on Saturday.?
?Sunoy pa siya para nako,? (he's too young to face me) Nietes said citing an age old Philippine cockfight tradition for a young rooster never to face a battle-scarred old rooster.
Nietes seemed very relaxed a day ahead of the weighin. ?This is now my natural weight. I don't feel pressured in making weight unlike when I fought at 108. No problem at all,? Nietes said.
Nietes (39-1-4, 22KOs) reiterated his desire to fight the champions of the other organizations and asked Philboxing the performance of Japanese star Kazuto Ioka (22-1-0, 13KOs), the WBA world flyweight champion who successfully defended his title for the 9th time against Noknoi Sitthiprasert of Thailand last Sunday at the Edion Arena in Osaka, Japan in the co-main event of the Marlos Tapales vs Shohei Omori bout.
?I'm looking to fight Ioka or [WBO champion] Zou Shiming or the WBC champion [Juan Hernandez],? Nietes said.
Nietes's promoter Michael Aldeguer however said that a fight with Chinese star Zou Shiming may be difficult to make. ?China has bigger plans for boxing. I can sit down with them [about making the Nietes-Zou Shiming fight] but I'd rather see a bigger fight for Donnie against Roman Gonzalez. If Donnie will need to go up to 115 to fight the big names, we'll do that,? Aldeguer said.
Nietes however needs to win first this Saturday against Komgrich for the plans to move forward.

On the main undercard, rising star Mark 'Magnifico' Magsayo (15-0-0, 11KOs) will face Issa Nampepeche (24-7-4, 11KOs) of Tanzania for a scheduled 10-round featherweight bout. Although Magsayo had faced more accomplished opponents in the past, he was not over-confident. ?The fact that he had 24 wins makes him dangerous. I need to give a good performance to beat him,? Magsayo said.
Knockout artist Jeo Santisima (12-2-0, 11KOs) will take on Master Suro (11-8-1, 2KOs) of Indonesia for 10 rounds super bantamweight bout.
In the other scheduled undercard bouts, Virgel Vitor (9-1-0, 6KOs) will take on Michael Escobia (11-14-1, 3KOs) of Paranaque City, 10 rounds super bantamweight; Kenneth Paul Gentallan (5-0-0, 3KOs) vs John Kenan Villaflor (6-2-2, 2KOs), 8 rounds super flyweight; Christian Bacolod (6-0-0, 5KOs) vs Mike Kinaadman (5-1-2, 4KOs), 6 rounds flyweight; Junrel Jimenez (6-1-0, 3KOs) vs Romulo Ramayan Jr (7-10-3, 3KOs), 8 rounds flyweight; Esneth Domingo (5-0-0, 4KOs) vs Ramel Antaran (2-4-1, 0KOs), 8 rounds flyweight.
The official weighin will be held Friday at the Robinson's Galleria here in Cebu starting at 12 noon.
