FAJARDO WINS 35TH SMB-SAC ATHLETE OF THE YEAR HONORS

CEBU CITY ? June Mar Fajardo, the superstar center of the PBA Philippine Cup champions San Miguel Beermen, bagged the Athlete of the Year honors during the 35th SMB-SAC Cebu Sports Awards held Tuesday at the SM City Cebu Mall.

Fajardo beat Olympian long distance runner Mary Joy Tabal and sprinter Samantha Gem Limos who was hailed as the fastest woman in last year?s Palarong Pambansa for the prestigious award.

The 27 year old Fajardo has been a perennial nominee for this award and has been a previous recipient of the major award for basketball. Born and raised in Cebu, the 6?11? tower of power varsity played for the University of Cebu before turning pro and plying his trade in the Asean Basketball League and Philippine Basketball Association.

Fajardo?s career reached new heights as a member of the national team, popularly known as Gilas Pilipinas, for the 2013 FIBA Asia championships, the 2014 World championships and 2014 Asian Games. He has since been a fixture of national basketball team selections. He was awarded the Most Valuable Player in the PBA thrice.
