Tagum City?s Romero Duno (12-1-0-11KO?s) who fights for the first time in California against the well-promoted Christian ?Chimpa? Gonzales (16-0-0, 14KO) of the famed Golden Boy Promotions for the WBC Youth InterContinental Lightweight title, came to our offices today with his trainer, former WBC Flyweight Champion Rodel Mayol of Los Angeles, and promptly declared that he is on track with his training and would be 100% ready on fight day, March 10, 2017.

?OK po ang training namin at sa awa nang Dios wala naman problema,? (training is ok and with God?s blessings we don?t have a problem) he said as he sat on our dental chair waiting for us to fit him a mouthguard.

Duno looks trim and fit given the fact that the fight is more than a month away. His condition is a credit to Mayol who is gunning for his second win as an trainer, the first being with Aston Palicte in Las Vegas a few weeks ago.

Duno, whose only foreign fight ended with a loss against Russia?s undefeated slugger, Mikhail Alexseev (7-0-0) at Ekatarinburg, Russia, vowed not to let a loss in a foreign land happen again.

?Bihira lang po ang mga ganitong pagkakataon kaya pipilitin kong manalo? (These opportunities are rare, so I will do my best to win) he said. Pero alam ko rin na sa kanila yung kalaban, kaya may kahirapan and laban? (But I also know my opponent is the house fighter, so the fight will be tough.?

We advised Duno not to get blinded by the enormity of the event and the fact that the crowd will be against him. We also reminded him that Gonzales had a tough time with diminutive super bantamweight Jhon Gemino of Lipa City who sports a not so impressive 13-6-1, 7KO record yet Gonzales was taken to the end of round 8 before he scored a UD. But we also warned him that Gonzales may have a great night and improve to 17 wins and 15KO.

Duno?s chances will no doubt be enhanced if Filipino fight fans flock to the Belasco Theater and support him by buying tickets for the fight. Hopefully, they will because Duno promises to make their trip to Belasco worthwhile.
