ASTON PALICTE ALL SET FOR HIS LAS VEGAS DEBUT

Whether or not boxing is dying, or already dead in the Philippines as mentioned by renowned Pinoy sportswriter, Recah Trinidad in a recent article he penned for PhilBoxing.com, mean nothing to Filipino rising boxing star, Aston ?Mighty? Palicte. The Filipino slugger cares less about the politics of boxing. He is only focused on the task ahead.

Palicte (21-2-0, 18KO) of Bago City, pronounced himself ready to make a rousing debut in Las Vegas when he meets an undefeated but less experienced boxer from Kingsville, Texas in the person of Oscar Cantu (14-0-0, 1KO) on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Downtown Events Center a few miles off the famed Las Vegas strip.

Palicte and Cantu are fighting for two belts, the vacant WBA/NABA Super Flyweight and the vacant NABF Super Flyweight belts.

The fight is still a few days away but Palicte feels that he is ready even as his LA-based trainer, former WBC Flyweight champion Rodel Mayol states that they still have a few minor kinks to sort out in the next 7 days. Then they break camp at the Wildcard Gym and head on to the Sin City.

?We have a great chance to win this fight and perhaps head on to the big battles. Cantu maybe undefeated but if he elects to slug it out like most Mexican boxers do, he may be KO number 19 for Aston? said Mayol as we talked at my office while impressions are being taken of Palicte for a new custom mouthguard yesterday.

Today, after completing the required ?medical examinations? in San Pedro, California, Team Palicte drove back to our offices and Palicte had his new mouthguard fitted and delivered. He also had the obligatory photo taken that will hang amongst the hundreds that are proudly displayed at our office brag wall.

?Magaling siya doc, kasi walang talo pero para yatang makakaya ko suntok niya. Isa lang kasi ang KO niya kaya sana lumaban nang pukpukan para maganda,? Palicte said. (He is good but I may be able to take his punches because he only has one KO. I hope he will chose to engage close so the fight will be good)

Yesterday, Palicte eagerly asked to have a mouthguard that depicts the color of the Philippine flag. ?Laban ako para sa bansa kaya gusto yung kulay natin?. (I am fighting for the country so I want our colors). Of course, his wish was granted!

A super flyweight twin-title fight between undefeated Oscar Cantu and "Mighty" Aston Palicte headlines the final 2016 installment of the popular "Knockout Night at the D" series on Saturday night, December 17, airing live (7 p.m. PT / 10 p.m. ET) on CBS Sports Network from inside the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center indoor facility, located in the heart of the downtown Las Vegas casino district, one block away from the world famous Fremont Street (200 S. 3rd St.). FloBoxing.tv will live stream the Dec. 17th "Knockout Night at the D" undercard worldwide, starting at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET), in addition to three main card TV bouts - excluding North America - beginning at 7 p.m. PT / 10 p.m. ET).
