Two years ago, Randy Petalcorin was on top of the world. He gave a dominating performance inside Shanghai?s Mercedes Benz Arena in front of boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and stopped Panamanian Walter Tello in seven rounds for the WBA interim world light flyweight title.
Six months later he was back in mainland China and silenced a partisan crowd in Beijing when he dropped Ma Yi Ming three times en route to an opening round TKO win. It seemed Petalcorin?s career has nowhere to go but up.
But his world came crashing down last year, when he was at the receiving end of highly questionable calls in his WBC Silver title fight against Omari Kimweri in Australia. Four knockdowns were not ruled in his favor, and he lost a split decision.
Petalcorin (25W-2L-1D,18KO?s) scored his second straight win since the Kimweri fight last Sunday in Gen.Santos City. He won the vacant IBF Pan Pacific light flyweight belt by a lopsided ten round unanimous decision over countryman Arnold Garde. His management team are now talking about another world title shot.
Petalcorin?s regional title win was the main event for Brawl at the Mall: Return of Gensan?s Finest. For the undercard bouts:
Eden Sonsona won via 8 round majority decision over Jaime Barcelona
John Vincent Moralde KO1 Joas Aparicio
Ben Mananquil UD8 Romulo Ramayan
Lolito Sonsona TKO4 Jetly Purisima
Mike Plania KO2 Jp Macadumpis
Reymart Gaballo KO2 Jerson Luzarito
Romero Duno Rtd3 Gabby Simpo
Jayson Mama KO2 Jade Yagahon
Sanman Promotions CEO Jim Claude ?JC? Manangquil informed philboxing of the fight results. In an earlier message to philboxing, Sanman Promotions stated that Petalcorin is now more inspired to fight since his wife Grace is already 4-months pregnant with their first baby.
Petalcorin said in the e-mail message that he has overcome his bad experience when he was robbed during his championship fight for the vacant WBC Silver flyweight title by a split decision against Omari Kimweri last April 15 at the Melbourne Pavilion in Flemington, Victoria in Australia.
?I needed time off from the robbery. I got discouraged but I?m moving on and I?m working twice harder because I will become a father next year,? said Petalcorin. Petalcorin said that it was hard to forget that fight but he is now okay and stronger.
