Dubai, UAE - Filipino expat Larry Abarra gave fight fans another brilliant display when he stopped Isaac Nettey of Ghana with a short right hook to the jaw in the second round in a fight card held Friday at the Ahdaaf Sports Club.

Abarra had a fast start and launched a two-fisted assault from the opening bell. A left-right hook combo to the head sent the Ghanaian down in the first but he stood up and managed to weather the onslaught.

But in the second, Abarra drove Nettey to the ropes and faked and sneaked in his right and Nettey crashed to the canvas again. Nettey tried to regain his bearings and beat the count but he could not control his legs and Referee Surat Soikrachang correctly stopped it at the 2:55 mark.

The 29 year old Abarra is now 6W-2L-1D, 5KO?s. He hails from Zambales and started his career in the Philippines with five fights before moving to Dubai. The 33 year old Netty goes down to 23-12-1, 12KO?s. This was reminiscent of Abarra?s performance last June when he knocked out Thai Natthapong Singsanan in the first round in same venue.

The last bout of the evening was a bloody hard fought battle between Deo Kizito of Uganda and Evgeny Vazem of Russia.

Kizito tried his best to close the gap against the bigger Russian but Vazem had enough guile and skill to land hard punches before Kizito could get within range. Kizito was bleeding from the nose and mouth since the third but he managed to keep ot close and tried a last-ditch rally in the eighth and final round but Vazem had enough in the tank to pull off a split decision win.

Scores ? Judges Jayson Parame (78-74) and Surat Soikrachang (77-75) had it for Vazem while Mekin Sumon scored for Kizito ? 77-75. The Referee was Atty. Danrex Tapdasan.

For the undercards: Lasisi Aliu of Nigeria needed only 59 seconds to knockout Gyula Dodu of Hungary, Rohen Date of the U.K. sent Stephen Okine of Ghana down twice in rounds two and four and handily won a unanimous decision. Okine also deducted a point in the third for repeated holding. Scores of 40-33 from Marcelo Ayala, Surat Soikrachang and Mekin Sumon.

In the opening pro fight, Nicholas Mwangi of Kenya beat Azizi Zafar of Afghanistan by unanimous verdict. All three judges ? Danrex Tapdasan, Smenzao Janab and Mekin Sumon had it 39-37.

The fights were officiated by the Professional Boxing Commission (PBC), International with fight supervisors Tony Comia of the Philippines and Wei Na of China. This boxing show was the second offering of THE FIGHT DXB for 2016.
