Manny Pacquiao, the fighting Senator from the Philippines, concluded his sparring Sunday afternoon and is pronounced to be in a 100% shape to exchange leathers with WBO Welterweight champion Jessie Vargas of Las Vegas.
Monday?s schedule will just be a casual jogging at the hilly Griffith Park in the early morning followed by some condition work to keep in shape. Then in the afternoon, the whole Team Pacquiao will motor to Las Vegas.
Sunday night was spent just hanging out with some friends around a dinner table sharing some well-cooked chicken soup, barbecued meat and rice.
The atmosphere around the house was one that can only be described as relaxed. It does not seem that there were any concerns about the up coming big fight on the 5th of November.
And, there was a lot of bible talk.
Former WBO Bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa was in the center of the discussion about faith and religion.
Penalosa who is a devout Catholic, was asking pointed questions and Pacquiao patiently addressed each and every single one of them. To prove his point, oftentimes he would search bible verses he obviously saved in his phone just for these types of evening with friends.
Pacquiao, needless to say, was very impressive and his knowledge of the bible does not cease to amaze everyone who was there to listen.
Incidentally, compared to the nights in the past, there were only a few folks hanging out at the Pacquiao residence. But those that mattered were around the table listening as Pacquiao patiently proved his points.
At promptly 9:00 PM Pacquiao ended the discussions with a prayer. But before he excused himself to go upstairs and retire for the night, he stopped to sign a couple of hats for some guys and admired again the one?of-a-kind mouthguards fabricated by this author and hand-painted by the award winning Pilipino painter, Jun Aquino.
The mouthguards are slated to be put up for auction on the Internet with proceeds going to the Dentistry For Every Village Foundation to support their free clinic projects in the Philippines.
