Froilan Saludar (23W-1L-1D, 14KO?s) will try to shake off the cobwebs in Japan when he faces Takuma Inoue (7W-0L,2KO?s) on September 4 at the Sky Arena in Zama, Kanagawa.
The 27 year old Saludar has not fought in a year after winning by 6th round technical decision against Michael Escobia in Polomolok, South Cotabato.
The 20 year old Inoue already has two Filipino victims on his resume ? Rene Dacquel and Mark Anthony Geraldo. The August 2016 rankings lists him at number 12 among the bantamweight contenders. The WBO champion in the bantamweight division is Marlon Tapales of the Philippines.
Both Saludar and Inoue weighed 117lbs during the official weigh-in held Saturday.
Saludar has lost only once in his pro career. It was at the hands of McWilliams Arroyo of Puerto Rico two years ago. Saludar was stopped in the second round with an IBF flyweight world title shot at stake. Arroyo would lose to then IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand by split decision.
Saludar has a string of four victories since that loss to Arroyo.
In the same card, Takuma?s brother, Naoya Inoue will defend his WBO world title against Thai Karoon Jarupianlerd a.k.a. Petchbarngborn Kokietgym. Both were at 115lbs during the weigh-in.
