Isaac Dogboe of Ghana defeated Neil John Tabanao of the Philippines in an entertaining bout held Friday at the at the Police Officer?s Social and Fitness Centre in Accra, Ghana.

This fight was to unify Tabanao?s WBO Oriental featherweight title and Dogboe?s WBO Africa belt and give the winner a boost up in the world rankings. They were also disputing the vacant WBC Youth featherweight title.

Dogboe effectively used his speed and mobility against the pressuring Tabanao. But unlike Floyd Mayweather, Dogboe did not shy away from engaging in close quarter combat when he needed to.

Both boxers unleashed a variety of combinations to the body and head in a fast paced bout. Videos of major portions of the bout were uploaded on social media and showed Dogboe having his best moments in the ninth wherein he scored with hooks to the Filipino?s ribs and head.

Tabanao tried to go for the KO until the very end, but Dogboe?s brief trip to the canvas in the final round was ruled a slip. Dogboe, a former Olympian, was declared the winner by unanimous decision, and keeps his unblemished record at 15-0,9KO?s.

Tabanao was coached by veteran trainer Brix Flores of Mandaue City, Cebu. Flores, together with trainer Fernando Ocon, was in the corner of Marlon Tapales during his WBO world bantamweight title victory last month in Thailand.

Tabanao drops to his second career loss at 13-2,9KO?s. Prior to this bout, the August 2016 rankings of the WBO has Dogboe at number 12 and Tabanao at number 15 in the 126 lb division.
