DE LA VEGA: QUO VADIZ CHARLY SUAREZ?

The gods in boxing have spoken, loudly if I may add. They are saying that Charly Suarez, the long time Philippine hope for a gold medal in boxing, is done. Done as an amateur, that is.
The powers-that-be in Philippine amateur boxing has run out of options. There is nothing else they can do to help Suarez get a gold for the country. Their ability to guide him in the amateurs has reach the end of the rope. In the vernacular, ?hanggang dun na lang sila?. They did their best but sadly, their best was not enough.
Suarez, this early should bite the bullet and make a decision. That decision should only be one ? that is leave the amateur ranks and turn to the professional ranks.
Surely, some in Philippine amateur boxing will continue to whisper in his ear that he has more to accomplish as an amateur and without doubt, they will say that they will go out of their ways to help him.
Frankly, they have been saying that to Suarez for many years and they have not helped him to the top. In fact, Suarez has been listening for too long to them. He should have turned pro when he was around 22. He could have been amongst the great pros from the country now that he is 27.
I highly suggest to Suarez to damp these Philippine amateur boxing people and go fend for himself. He owes that to himself!
I further suggest that he makes a call to Michael Aldeguer and sign up with the ALA Promotions the day he gets back to the country. Aldeguer may even be able to add him to the StubHub fight schedule headlined by Donnie Nietes in September 24th. That would make a great place for Suarez to make his debut as a pro.
Suarez's lost to J. Cordina of Great Britain in his first fight at the Rio 2016 Olympics. The decision could have gone either way but it went to the Brit and there is nothing that can be done to change that. That is boxing!
We should all be proud of Suarez. He gave most of his life to the Philippine amateur boxing and now it?s time for him to do something for himself and his family.
Come on Charlie, Michael Aldeguer is waiting for your call. Don?t make him wait to long please. You and I believe that ?God Saves?? but you have to save your self first!
