AYUTTHAYA, Thailand ? Filipino world title challenger Marlon Tapales and his team have arrived at the fight venue here after two hours of travel from Bangkok three hours ahead of fight time scheduled at around 2:30 p.m. local time (3:30 p.m. Manila time). Tapales will face local boy Pungluang Sor Singyu with Sor Singyu's WBO bantamweight at stake.

Tapales (28-2-0, 11KO ) will attempt to become the 4th Filipino world champion in the company of Donnie Nietes, Nonito Donaire Jr and Jonhriel Casimero. Tapales is the 4th Filipino to fight for a world title this year after Jetro Pabustan faced Pungluang Sor Singyu on Feb. 12 in Thailand, Jonhriel Casimero fought with Amnat Ruengroeng in a rematch on May 25 in Biejing and Jonathan Taconing challenged WBC light flyweight champion Ganigan Lopez in Mexico on July 2. Only Casimero went home with the title which Tapales will try to duplicate this afternoon.

Tapales however will be facing a formidable foe in Sor Singyu (52-3-0, 35KO) who has beaten all of his 20 Filipino opponents. Sor Singyu first captured the WBO bantamweight title on Oct. 20, 2012 by stopping AJ Banal of the Philippines at the Mall of Asia Arena. Sor Singyu lost the title in his first defense against Paulus Ambunda of Namibia on Mar. 2, 2013 but recaptured it on Aug. 7, 2015 by stopping Ryo Akaho of Japan in Ratchasima, Thailand.

The referee of the fight is Ramon Pe?a of Puerto Rico while the judges are Lisa Giampa of Las Vegas, USA, Chris Tellez of New Mexico, USA and Gerardo Martinez of Puerto Rico. The fight supervisor is WBO Vice-President for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo Jr.

The fight will be televised locally on Channel 7.
