El Monte, CA: For the first time ever, PR Sports and Bash Boxing held an event at the cavernous LA Badminton Club Event Center in this City and to their delight fight fans came out in droves to see the fights in spite of the fact that there were great fights on HBO and ShowTime that were not PPV. The venue was a nice place for a boxing event. It is very spacious and the dressing areas were great. The only problem was the lighting was very poor making ringside photography difficult as heck. The ring was not evenly lit and some portions were brighter than others.
Joel Diaz Jr (23-8-0,18KO) of Palmdale, CA chased Joaquim Corneiro (23-9-0,21KO) of Sao Paolo, Brazil from pillar to pillar from the opening bell, bloodied his nose as early as round one and eventually made him quit in his corner unable to answer the bell for round 4. Corneiro?s corner had a devil of a time stopping the nose bleed and upon doctor?s advice, the corner did not allow Corneiro to answer the fourth bell. The fight went on record as a 4th round TKO.
In the supporting main event, Rico Ramos (25-5-0, 23KO) of nearby Pico Rivera, CA and Justin Savi (28-6-2,18KO) of Cotonou, Benin fought a very tactical and therefore a boring fight over 8 rounds with each fighter suffering no consequence of note. In fact the ring girls got more ovations and catcall than the fighters. In the end the fight decision went to Ramos with judges scoring as 77-74,79-72 and 79-72.
In the main event, Virgilijus Stapulionin (27-3-1,19KO) of Pasvalys, Lithuania won via a controversial split decision of Nathaniel Gallimore (13-1-1,10KO) and gave the Kinston, Jamaica fighter his first loss. Stapulionin face showed the aftermath of the battle in contrast with the relatively unscathed Gallimore was so disappointed with the decision of the fight he thought he clearly won and refused to shake hands with the opposing team members and walked out of the ring immediately after the scores of 97-92,96-93 and 96-93 scores were announced.
Other Results:
David Lopez (2-0-0-1KO) of Pomona, CA won his second fight over Rasheed Lawal (1-3-1,0KO) of Ventura, CA via a unanimous decision with all judges scoring 39-37.
Damien Lopez Los Angeles won his professional debut via a great TKO over Jose Mejia ( 1-6-0,1KO) of Santa Paula, CA. Mejia?s corner threw in the towel in surrender in the middle of the second round.
Jessy Martinez (4-0-0-,1KO) of Woodland Hills, CA beat Tavorus Teague (3-12-2,2KO) of Bakersfield, CA via unanimous decision. Scores were 40-36,40-36 and 39-37.
Madivar Askayev of Oxnard, CA (3-0-0-2KO) cut the left eye area of Hector Mercado of Vera Cruz, MX ( 2-7-0,0KO) with a solid straight right in the first round and from there on, things went south for the Mexican until the end came at 2:58 of round 6th.
Eddie Diaz of Los Angeles (2-4-2,0KO) wins by UD over Mike Melikian of Los Angeles (1-1-0,0KO) . Scores were all 40-36
Enriko Gogohkia (1-0-0,0) of Georgia, Russia made his professional debut a memorable one via a TKO in the 2nd round over Steven McKinney (1-8-0,0KO) of Vancouver, Washington. McKinney suffered a cut in round 2 and fight was stopped at 2:34.
