Randy Petalcorin of the Philippines and Omari Kimweri of Tanzania both easily made weight Thursday for their WBC silver flyweight title bout this April 15 Friday at the Melbourne Pavilion in Australia.
In a message to philboxing, Petalcorin?s co-manager and promoter Jim Claude Mananquil of the Sanman Promotions stated that Petalcorin weighed at 108lbs while Kimweri was 104.5, both below the division limit.
?Randy was already in Melbourne last April 3 to adjust to the climate,? Manangquil said in an earlier e-mail to philboxing. ?He arrived together with his trainer Renie Gabawa and are now staying at the house of co-manager Peter Maniatis.?
Petalcorin, a native of Davao City, has sparred a total of 100 rounds already against his own stablemates Jenny Boy Buca, Jayson Mama and Renren Tesorio at the Sanman Gym in General Santos City. He trained for 50 days and made his final 12 practice sessions in Melbourne.
Two years ago, Petalcorin won the WBA interim world light flyweight title in Shanghai when he stopped Walter Tello of Panama in seven rounds. Petalcorin would go back to China, this time in Beijing, last year and stopped Ma Yi Ming in one round to retain his title.
Kimweri, who is now based in Australia, is a former Australian flyweight and WBO Oriental light flyweight titlist.
Manangquil said that Petalcorin is confident and ready to win another title for the Philippines.
