Amonsot Set to Go Home; World Cup Team Right on Track

I visited the Wildcard Gym today to check on the World Cup Team and get a first hand info about Czar Amonsot.

Trainer Edito Villamor who is in constant touch with Michael Aldeguer and Sammy Gello-ani in Las Vegas informed that Amonsot got released by the hospital early today with a clean bill of health and is back resting at the Mandalay Bay Hotel. He is reportedly doing well and very eager to go home. Amonsot and Mr. Gello-ani are scheduled to leave for Manila tomorrow. Indeed, that is heart-warming!

The World Cup Team members on the other hand are all doing well with their training. “They are all where they should be in terms of their preparation and weight” informed Villamor.

With the heat wave in the Los Angeles basin that creates a muggy and humid weather, the boys are feeling less homesick. “ Parang Pinas ang init, doc. Okay na okay”, quipped AJ Banal.

Bert Batawang is not fazed with the change of opponent. “Kahit po sino” okay lang. Handang handa naman po ako” he said.

Michael Domingo, being a first timer at the Wildcard is understandably shy and reserved. He is however focused and simply gets his job done at the bags and during sparring.

It was great seeing Z Gorres back at the gym. Last time I saw him was in Cebu in February. Z appears to be the same nice guy I knew since back when he first fought at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas. “Laban na laban na po ang condition ko”.

Boom Boom is eagerly looking forward to his title fight. “Ito na po ang hinihintay ko kaya buhos ang training”. Even with his boyish smile, it was easy to see that he meant it. The guy is hell bent to win.

After the training, I took the boys for lunch at the Thai Place next to the Wildcard Gym. This “Mom and Pops” restaurant is the favorite hang-out of Manny Pacquiao when he is training at the Wildcard Gym. As usual, the boys ordered their favorite seafood soup, lots of veggies and fish washed down by Gatorade.
