GEN.SANTOS CITY ? ?Vicious? Vic Saludar returned to the win column with an impressive unanimous decision victory over a tough Lito Dante and retained his WBO Asia-Pacific minimumweight title.
Saludar used his reach to fend off the aggressive Dante but the challenger continued to pressure. Saludar tagged him with hard rights and sharp jabs and shifted his attack to the body in the middle rounds.
Dante tried to make a fight out of it but could not effectively cut the ring off as Saludar?s footwork kept him out of harm?s way and gave him good angles for offense.
A punch opened a cut on Dante?s left eyelid in the 8th round and the left side of his face started to swell as Saludar had a welcome target until the final bell.
The scores ? Salven Lagumbay and Edward Ligas ? 99-91, Brembot Dulalas ? 100-90.
This was a confidence building win for Saludar (right in photo) who lost his WBO world title shot to Kosei Tanaka of Japan at the end of 2015. Saludar was ahead on the judges scores when he was stopped in the sixth round.
Saludar is now 12-2,9KO?s, Dante drops to 11-6-3,6KO?s. Saludar had Trainer Jun Agrabio in his corner. Agrabio is known for guiding Marvin Sonsona to the WBO world superflyweight title in 2009.
This regional title bout was the second of a WBO triple-header held Saturday at the Oval Plaza Gym of Gen.Santos City. The fight card also had Jake Bornea retaining his WBO Youth Asia Pacific flyweight title and Hiroshige Osawa of Japan winning the vacant WBO Asia Pacific featherweight title (see separate stories).
The WBO bouts were supervised by WBO VP for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo.
?KAMBAL KAMAO? was co-promoted by Amoy Boxing Promotions in cooperation with Ran-ran Boxing Stable, G-Pro Boxing Team and Championship Boxing Development of Kenneth Rontal.
