CEBU ? Well known promoter Rex 'Wakee' Salud, the manager of Filipino title contender Marlon Tapales, has informed Philboxing that the mandatory Pungluang Sor Singyu-Marlon Tapales WBO bantamweight world title bout has been finalized and will take place in a still yet to be named venue in Thailand on June 17, 2016.

?We accepted OneSongchai's final offer of $37,000 purse for Marlon,? Salud said. ?And now the fight is set. Marlon is excited to face Pungluang,? Salud added. OneSongchai Promotions is Sor Singyu's promoter headed by the amiable Paryakorn Rathanasuban.

Sor Singyu (52-3-0, 35KO), 26, of Bangkok, captured the vacant WBO bantamweight title on Oct. 20, 2012 by stopping AJ Banal of the Philippines in the 9th round at Mall of Asia Arena but lost it in his first defense against Paulus Ambunda of Namimbia on Mar. 2, 2013. Sor Singyu fought for the same title again on July 12, 2014 in Las Vegas against Tomoki Kameda of Japan who previously wrested it from Ambunda in Cebu on Aug. 1, 2013 but Sor Singyu lost by 7th round knockout against Kameda.

Sor Singyu again fought for the vacant WBO bantamweight title against Ryo Akaho of Japan on Aug. 7, 2015 in Ratchaburi, Thailand and recaptured it by stopping the Japanese in the 2nd round. Kameda was earlier forced to vacate the WBO title in April, 2015 when the WBO refused to sanction his fight against WBA world bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell of the UK on May 9, 2015.

Sor Singyu made a successful defense of the title last Feb. 12 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand against Filipino Jetro Pabustan.

Tapales (28-2-0, 11KO), 24, of Lala, Lanao del Norte, gained mandatory challenger status by knocking out in the 2nd round then undefeated Shohei Omori of Japan in Omori's backyard in Kyoto on Feb. 16 in a scintillating performance.

Tapales, ranked No. 1 by the WBO in the bantamweight division, racked up seven straight wins since losing by what its team claimed a hometown majority decision to David Sanchez of Mexico in Sanchez's hometown in Hermosillo on Feb. 23, 2013 for the WBC Silver super flyweight title. Tapales captured the vacant WBO Asia Pacific title by outpointing compatriot Fredirex Rodriguez on Aug. 1, 2013 at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu.

Tapales's fight on June 17 will be his first world title fight while it will be Sor Singyu's second defense of the title he recaptured on Aug. 7, 2015.
