Randy Petalcorin is one of the two Filipino light flyweight title holders who will be honored with the Boxer of the Year Award during the 16th annual Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde Boxing Awards ?Banquet of Champions? on March 29 at the Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City.

Petalcorin, who fights out of the Sanman Gym of Gen. Santos City, is the WBA world interim light flyweight champion. Last April 24, 2015, Petalcorin dropped Ma Yi Ming of China three times to retain his title by first round TKO in Beijing.

The 25 year old Petalcorin (23-1-1,18KO?s) has been inactive since that fight.

Sanman Promotions CEO Jim Claude Manangquil informed this writer that Petalcorin will be fighting again this April and they will make a formal announcement next week.

?Sanman Promotions is grateful to have Randy Petalcorin being awarded as Boxer of the Year. Randy Petalcorin is just starting and he will have a busy 2016,? said Manangquil.

?I?m happy to get this award and I?m looking forward to get more world titles in the future,? Petalcorin stated in a message to philboxing. The hard hitting southpaw hails from Davao City and won his world title by seventh round TKO against Panama?s Walter Tello in 2014 at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai. Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao was present at ringside in that fight.

The co-awardee for Boxer of the Year is Rey Loreto (21-13, 13KO?s), reigning IBO world light flyweight champion of the Brico Santig Stable. Last March 22, 2015, the 25 year old Loreto won by TKO in the first round against Nkosinathi Joyi in South Africa to retain his title. Last January, Loreto also captured the vacant WBA International minimumweight title by knocking out Thai Fapikat Twin Gym in Bangkok.

Four other boxers from the Sanman gym will also receive citations for winning their respective titles - WBC Asia featherweight champion John Vincent Moralde, IBO Intercontinental lightweight champion Raymond Tabugon, WBF International flyweight champion Jether Oliva and WBF Asia Pacific featherweight champion Rimar Metuda.

JC Manangquil also informed philboxing that Sanman Promotions, which has more than 20 boxers, plans to have seven to eight boxing shows this year including its inaugural staging in Manila.

Sanman?s opening presentation this year was the highly successful Brawl at the Mall: Glory held Feb. 13 at the Gaisano Mall Atrium in Gensan, followed by the T?boli Thunder last March 8.
