Las Vegas, Nevada -- For the country and for Czar Amonsot, it was not meant to be. The Philippines is now 2 and 1 in title fights for the month of July 2007.

Tonight, at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas, Czar Amonsot fought a gallant battle, messing up the face of Michael Katsidis while keeping his own practically unmarked. But, he was down on the canvass twice allowing the Australian to escape with a unanimous decision.

Many of those who saw the fight live thought that had it not been for two knock-downs, things could have been different. In fact, the referee had the ring doctor check on the cuts of Katsidis on the 11th round, perhaps worried of long lasting injuries. But, the fight was allowed to continue.

Amonsot may have lost the fight but he earned a lot of new fans particularly from the Latino crowd that came to see Oscar Chololo Larios defend his crown against a crafty Venezuelan named Jorge Linares.

In spite knowing that he was a huge underdog, the crowd cheered for him because of his gutsy performance that reminded them of their Latino fighters.

Over lunch today, Amonsot indicated that this is the opportunity that he waited for so long and he will give it all to try to win for the country and for his supporters, particularly the Aldeguers and Mayor Dan Neri Lim of Tagbilaran. Indeed, he left everything hang up on the ring!

Although the loss was heart breaking, Amonsot should not keep his head bowed. He gave a gallant performance and did far better than what all the odd-makers thought he can do. He is young and resilient, thus coming back to fight another day should not be that hard.

The rest of the fight card results:

Bernard Hopkins won via a lazy unanimous decision over Winky Wright. As one scribe said after their fight:- “What is sad is not Winky losing the fight, but possibly seeing Hopkins fight again” That statement sums it all. It was a lousy fight!

Oscar Larios, who is better known in the Philippines as one of the victims of Manny Pacquiao got TKO’d by Jorge Linares of Venezuela thereby losing his interim WBC featherweight crown.

Librado Andrade of Guanajuato, Mexico TKO’d Ted Muller of Moline, Illinois at 1:48 of the second round. The fight was on the super middleweight division.

Super lightweight Demetrius Hopkins, the nephew of Bernard won via a 1st round KO over Jailer Enrique Berrio of Monteria, Columbia. The fight was scheduled for 10 rounds

Rock Allen of Philadelphia another super lightweight won via 6 round UD over Ramiro Rivera of Phoenix, Arizona.

Jose Rodriguez of New York edged Keenan Collins of Reading, Pennsylvania via a split decision over 8 rounds.

In the opener, Juan Dominguez, a junior featherweight from Brooklyn, NY won by a majority decision over Lucian Gonzales of Reading, Pennsylvania.
